Rivers and reservoirs from directly above, where the geometry only the air can see becomes obvious.
Aerial photographs of Luxembourg's river meanders — the village loop at Esch-sur-Sûre, the Alzette at Lorentzweiler, and the Upper Sûre reservoir above the dam. Shot between April and June 2026 at 80 metres altitude, this series documents Luxembourg through its waterways: the geometry of rivers and reservoirs that is invisible from the ground and becomes obvious from the air.
The Upper Sûre reservoir, created between 1955 and 1961 to supply drinking water to southern Luxembourg, holds sixty million cubic metres. The valley it replaced — farms, roads, hamlets — was flooded within living memory of people still alive when these photographs were made. The Alzette meander at Lorentzweiler is estimated to be several thousand years old.
