Pont Adolphe and the Passerelle stand over a gorge the city built its identity around. The skate park below them is the same geography, a different century.
Aerial photographs of the Pétrusse Valley in Luxembourg City — the gorge that divided the Ville Haute from the Bonnevoie plateau and shaped everything the city became. Pont Adolphe, completed in 1903, was the longest stone arch bridge in the world at the time of its opening. The Passerelle viaduct beside it is older still, carrying the railway over the valley on 24 arches since 1861. Shot in June 2026 at 60–100 metres altitude with a DJI Mini 5 Pro.
The skate park at the base of the Passerelle is the same gorge floor where fortification engineers once dug glacis and redoubts. Luxembourg dismantled its own defences under the Treaty of London in 1867 — the walls came down, the gorge became a park, the park became a skate park. The Belle Époque villas climbing the far slope predate the skateboard by seventy years and the drone by a hundred.
